When the doctor told him he had coronary heart disease and needed a heart stent fitted, the first thing that crossed 56-year-old Sulistiyatno’s mind was the cost of treatment. That worry gradually faded after he experienced the benefits of the National Health Insurance (JKN) programme. Through this scheme, he has been able to undergo a full course of treatment and monthly routine check-ups without being burdened by costs.
“The first thing I thought of when the doctor diagnosed me with coronary heart disease and said I needed a catheter fitted in my heart was the cost,” he said.
Sulistiyatno underwent treatment after being diagnosed with coronary heart disease, including the stent insertion procedure. Since then, routine check-ups have become part of his daily life to keep his health stable.
According to Sulistiyatno, the process of using JKN is quite straightforward. He simply follows the procedure, starting with obtaining a referral from a first-level health facility and then taking a queue number for his hospital check-up through the Mobile JKN app.
“First, you need a referral from the first-level health clinic. Next, you register at the hospital to get a queue number through the Mobile JKN app. So, to monitor and ensure my heart condition remains stable through these monthly check-ups, the process is very easy,” he explained.
Sulistiyatno also found the online queue feature on Mobile JKN convenient. Through this feature, he can take a queue number before arriving at the health facility, making his visits more practical.
“Taking a monthly check-up queue through the JKN app is very easy and fast. You just open the app and click. So there is no need to wait long to get a queue number; from home, we can already register for the queue,” he said.
For Sulistiyatno, the benefits of JKN are not only felt when he needs treatment, but also through promotive and preventive services such as health screenings. In his view, early examinations can help people identify disease risks before their condition becomes more severe.
“Actually, we can make use of the services provided by JKN, one of which is health screening. Potential diseases can be detected earlier, so we don’t wait until symptoms appear and then, after being checked, find out we have been diagnosed with a serious illness,” he explained.
