DHL Express strengthens Indonesian air logistics exports up to 3 tonnes
Jakarta (ANTARA) - DHL Express is strengthening Indonesia’s logistics exports through an express air delivery service with a capacity of up to 3 tonnes per shipment, aimed at supporting national industrial growth and increasing global competitiveness.
Ahmad Mohamad, Senior Technical Advisor for DHL Express Indonesia, stated that Indonesia’s role in global distribution networks continues to evolve, driven by the performance of the manufacturing sector, exports, and infrastructure development.
“As businesses become increasingly globalised and integrated, the need for logistics solutions that provide speed, reliability, and certainty becomes even more critical,” Ahmad said in a press release received in Jakarta on Thursday.
DHL Express announced the global expansion of its Time Definite International portfolio with the launch of Heavy Weight Express (HWX), an express air shipping solution for shipments of up to 1,000kg per piece and 3,000kg per shipment.
The launch comes as Indonesia’s logistics sector continues to expand alongside industrial expansion and increased participation in global trade. The national freight and logistics market value is projected to reach approximately USD 139 billion by 202le.
Through this launch, DHL Express reinforces its role as a global integrator capable of handling heavy cargo shipments with express speed and high reliability to more than 220 countries and territories, supported by an integrated aviation and land network that ensures stable transport capacity, predictable delivery times, and consistent global handling standards.
Ahmad explained that Heavy Weight Express is designed to meet the needs of industries where reliability and timely delivery are vital operational factors. The service integrates time-definite shipping with end-to-end control, proactive monitoring, and transparent all-in pricing schemes to reduce the tariff volatility and cost uncertainty common in other freight services.
Customers receive guarantees on express delivery times, visibility at every stage of the shipment, and DHL’s operational standards, including strict handling procedures for goods that are shock-sensitive, high-value, or require special handling.
Furthermore, data shows that non-oil and gas exports grew by 7.68 per cent year-on-year in early 2025, while manufacturing exports increased by more than 16 per cent. This reflects stronger integration into global distribution networks and an increasing need for fast and reliable cross-border logistics solutions.
The launch of HWX is also supported by the presence of Heavy Weight Priority Desks in various countries. This team is responsible for proactive monitoring, early detection of potential obstacles, real-time intervention, and direct communication with customers to ensure smooth shipments.
Every heavyweight shipment is handled with a case ownership approach, providing certainty and personalised attention, supported by DHL’s global infrastructure, standardised processes, and 24-hour operational control.
Ahmad noted that the solution addresses six key needs in heavyweight shipping across various global industries, ranging from preventing production disruptions and managing tight product launch deadlines to improving working capital efficiency by reducing buffer stocks. It also supports large-scale procurement-based shipments, meets special handling requirements, and maintains the stability of complex distribution networks across various locations.
These needs are prevalent in sectors such as technology, automotive manufacturing, engineering and machinery, life sciences, pharmaceuticals, and oil and gas, where even minor disruptions can impact overall business operations and performance. This is highly relevant for Indonesia, where the manufacturing sector contributes approximately 18–19 per cent to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and serves as a primary pillar of exports and industrial activity.
