DHL Deploys Wuling EVs to Advance Green Logistics
DHL Express Indonesia has added 30 Wuling Mitra EV Blind Van Long Range vehicles to its operational fleet. The environmentally friendly vehicles will support goods deliveries in several major cities.
The new fleet will be deployed to strengthen delivery operations in Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang and Surabaya. The strategic move is also intended to reduce carbon emissions from day-to-day logistics activities.
The addition was marked by a vehicle handover ceremony at DHL Express Indonesia’s facility in Halim, Jakarta. Twenty vehicles will operate in Jakarta, eight in Surabaya, and one each in Bandung and Semarang.
The move comes amid closer trade ties between countries and growing business concern about environmental impacts. Companies are continuing to adapt to global market demands, which increasingly prioritise sustainability.
According to the DHL Global Connectedness Report 2026, Indonesia has strong trade ties with major economies in Asia and around the world. Its most prominent links are with China, Singapore and the United States.
Meanwhile, the latest DHL Globalization Tracker data show that intra-Asian trade has continued to strengthen over time. This positive trend is creating greater opportunities for Indonesian companies to expand their access to regional and global markets.
At the same time, environmental issues are becoming a major concern for businesses in Indonesia. This growing awareness is encouraging corporations to expand green initiatives across their operations and supply chains.
An industry study found that nearly three-quarters of organisations in Indonesia have dedicated budgets for environmental programmes. This reflects the importance companies are attaching to sustainability in business decision-making.
These conditions are prompting logistics providers to seek ways to reduce emissions from their operations without compromising the quality of service they provide to customers.
“As global trade networks expand, customers increasingly expect logistics providers not only to excel operationally, but also to demonstrate tangible progress in reducing their environmental impact. These electric vehicles help us cut emissions from delivery activities while strengthening our ability to support customers engaged in international trade,” said Ahmad Mohamad, Senior Technical Advisor at DHL Express Indonesia.
Company leaders emphasised that environmental commitment is an important part of the long-term strategy for the logistics business. The green transition is being pursued consistently across service lines.
“The addition of this fleet is a concrete step towards building lower-emission logistics operations in Indonesia, without compromising the speed, reliability and connectivity customers need,” Ahmad added.
For international logistics companies, road transport is the key link between global networks and local customers. Electric vehicles offer an effective way to reduce emissions from daily activities.
The innovation also extends emissions-reduction efforts to the final stage of the delivery process, or last-mile delivery. The company is seeking to make its entire operational chain more environmentally friendly.
Electric vehicles are being deployed not only in Jakarta but also in other cities within DHL Express Indonesia’s operational network. The strategy strengthens logistics infrastructure readiness in various regions.
The move gives customers more service options, particularly as companies diversify their supply chains. Business growth opportunities are increasingly opening up beyond the main metropolitan areas.
Surabaya and Semarang were selected because they are playing an increasingly important role as national logistics and trade centres. These areas are considered strategic for developing a green transport ecosystem.
