Dharma Jaya to Build Cattle Pens in Ciangir, Initial Capacity 1,000 Head

PERUMDA Dharma Jaya is preparing a new cattle-pen facility in Ciangir, Tangerang Regency, to increase live cattle intake capacity to meet Jakarta’s beef demand. The company says the facility will address land-use constraints at its current sites. Chief Executive Raditya Endra Budiman said: ‘From the quota of 7,500 head allocated by the Ministry of Agriculture, under Dharma Jaya’s current conditions we can only bring in around 3,119 head. It’s not due to fear of weak demand, but because of space limitations.’ He explained that in 2026 the company targets live cattle intake of up to 10,000 head; however capacity limits prevent full import realization. Raditya revealed that Dharma Jaya actually has 12 hectares of land in Serang that could accommodate up to 5,000 head, but the land use has changed, and it can no longer be used as a cattle yard. ‘The land designation has changed. It used to be allowed as a cattle pen; now it can only be used for agrotourism. So the existing pens cannot be widened or expanded,’ he said. As an alternative, Dharma Jaya will utilise land owned by the Jakarta Provincial Government in Ciangir, Tangerang Regency. The area covers about 100 hectares, with around 20 hectares already used by a correctional facility. Of the roughly 70 hectares remaining, the company estimates only about 40 hectares will be needed for the development of the cattle farming area. ‘Initially we will build the pens and a feed processing warehouse. In the future it will become an integrated farming zone,’ he added. The site is also planned to include a Slaughterhouse (RPH) and cold storage facilities. The RPH currently operating in Cakung could potentially be relocated to Ciangir. ‘Jakarta is already too crowded. Ciangir is farther from residential areas, making it more suitable for operations,’ Raditya noted. With the new cattle pens, Dharma Jaya targets an increase in live cattle intake capacity to 1,000 head in a single procurement period. ‘If we can immediately bring in 1,000 head, the process will be faster and we can request additional head to reach 10,000 head,’ he concluded.
