Dharma Jaya Entrusted by PWNU Jakarta for Eid al-Adha Animal Sacrifice
The Regional Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PWNU) Jakarta has entrusted Dharma Jaya Regional Public Enterprise with the Eid al-Adha animal sacrifice for 1447 AH. The process takes place at the Cakung Animal Slaughterhouse (RPH), located at Dharma Jaya Regional Public Enterprise’s office on Jalan Raya Penggilingan in East Jakarta. This collaboration marks a step forward in conducting the sacrifice in a more hygienic and health-compliant manner.
PWNU Jakarta Regional Board Chairman Samsul Ma’arif stated that the partnership with Dharma Jaya supports a more practical, clean, and standardised animal sacrifice process. “Alhamdulillah this year we are working with Dharma Jaya as it is more practical and reduces contamination at the slaughter site,” he said while observing the sacrifice at Dharma Jaya on Thursday, 28 May.
He explained that this Eid al-Adha, PWNU Jakarta received approximately 13 large cattle sacrifices from various sources, including President Prabowo Subianto, Jakarta Governor, Jakarta Regional Police Chief, and Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency Nusron Wahid.
According to Samsul, this is the first time PWNU Jakarta has conducted the sacrifice at Dharma Jaya, having previously been done traditionally and manually. “Moving forward, as a global city, Jakarta must have dedicated and standardised animal slaughter facilities. Sacrifices should no longer be carried out haphazardly,” he said.
He added that PWNU chose Dharma Jaya due to its facilities adhering to the ASUH principles (Safe, Healthy, Whole, and Halal), good sanitation standards, and certified halal butchers (Juleha). “In addition to animal health, sanitation is maintained. The process is more practical and faster,” he said.
Samsul hopes that modern slaughter facilities like Dharma Jaya will be expanded across Jakarta’s administrative regions to ensure even service distribution. “This can serve as a pilot project. The government must set an example by conducting animal slaughter in specially prepared facilities,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, Dharma Jaya Regional Public Enterprise Director Raditya Endra Budiman welcomed PWNU Jakarta’s trust in handling this year’s animal sacrifice. “This is a source of pride for Dharma Jaya as it has been entrusted by PWNU to process the sacrificial animals here. We already have standards accepted by the public and health authorities,” Raditya said.
Raditya stated that every region in Jakarta should ideally have certified slaughter centres meeting health and halal standards, like those implemented by Dharma Jaya. “If this is realised, animal slaughter won’t be confined to Dharma Jaya alone but spread out, allowing all Jakarta residents to benefit,” he added.
Therefore, the proposal to develop modern slaughter facilities will be submitted to the Jakarta Provincial Government for follow-up.
In practice, Dharma Jaya provides comprehensive services from slaughter to packaging and distribution of sacrificial meat. The meat will be distributed by PWNU Jakarta to the public via six PCNU branches across Jakarta. Raditya assured all processes comply with Islamic law and are strictly supervised by certified professionals. “Insha’Allah, everything is carried out in accordance with Islamic law and directly supervised during the slaughter process,” he said.
He also noted that, according to Jakarta’s Food Security, Marine, and Agriculture Agency (KPKP), 744 certified halal butchers have been prepared for this year’s Eid al-Adha. As of yesterday, around 250 animals had been slaughtered at Dharma Jaya, with numbers rising daily.
Jakarta’s Istiqlal Mosque received the responsibility to slaughter 65 cattle and 13 goats for Eid al-Adha 1447 AH, including a sacrificial cow from President Prabowo Subianto. Alongside religious considerations, Istiqlal’s sacrifice operations also emphasise environmental friendliness.
A total of 26 sacrificial animals—14 cattle and 12 goats—were distributed through collaboration between ITDC, tenants, area partners, and local businesses. In Sidoarjo Regency, 30 cattle and one goat were slaughtered at BHS Media Center. Breakdown: 3,520 cattle, 3,940 sheep, 777 goats, and 20 buffaloes.
