DGT Discovers 143,000 'Dormant' Taxpayers, Unlocking IDR 1.2 Trillion in Tax Potential

The Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) at the Ministry of Finance has revealed that a significant number of taxpayers were ‘dormant’ throughout 2026 and have now had their accounts reactivated. Director General of Taxes Bimo Wijayanto stated that in an effort to broaden Indonesia’s tax base, his party has reactivated 143,449 dormant taxpayer accounts. This was carried out following evidence from the 2026 extensification programme and the 2025 performance results from tax return reports. “Alhamdulillah, it is extraordinary, there are an additional 143,449 new taxpayers entering the system, so this is the number of inactive dormant taxpayers whose tax obligations we have been able to reactivate through our system,” Bimo said during the 2026 Tax Dialogue on Monday (13/7/2026). Bimo continued that this effort represents a new achievement for the DJP, considering that reactivating hundreds of thousands of dormant taxpayer accounts previously required two years. The tax potential from the reactivation of these accounts reaches IDR 1.2 trillion. “This is not an ordinary achievement; if we look at previous years, it took two years. So the quantitative achievement from these 143,449 new taxpayers is around IDR 1.2 trillion,” Bimo continued. Bimo explained that these taxpayers’ accounts had been inactive for quite some time, so by reopening them, the potential for tax revenue can increase. “So these are taxpayers who have newly entered our system and been reactivated after being dormant for a long time,” he clarified.
