Dewa 19 Drummer Tyo Nugros' Passport Held by Immigration Over State Debt
Tyo Nugros, the drummer of legendary Indonesian music group Dewa 19, failed to depart for Malaysia to perform with his band. Immigration officers at Soekarno-Hatta Airport not only prevented him from leaving the country but also officially confiscated his passport. The prevention occurred on Friday, 5 June 2026, as Tyo and a group of Dewa 19 crew members and personnel were preparing for an international journey. During the document scanning process at the departure terminal, officers discovered an active status in the travel ban list. Soekarno-Hatta Immigration Public Relations officer, Panca, confirmed the action was taken upon an official request from the Jakarta I State Assets and Auction Service (KPKNL). Tyo Nugros’ name has been integrated into the Immigration Management Information System (SIMKIM) as an individual prohibited from travelling abroad. According to immigration officials, the travel ban is based on a significant financial obligation to the state that the individual has yet to settle. Panca stated that this measure was taken because Tyo was deemed not to have shown good faith in resolving the matter. He added that the passport will be handed over to Immigration until the case with the Jakarta I KPKNL is completed and advised the musician to report to the KPKNL office immediately so the issue can be resolved swiftly. The passport confiscation is part of the Standard Operating Procedure in travel prevention cases. As long as the prevention status remains active in the SIMKIM system, the travel document will remain under the supervision of immigration authorities. Immigration officials confirmed the passport will be returned as soon as the case with the Jakarta I KPKNL is declared finished. Tyo Nugros is automatically unable to book tickets or undertake international travel until the travel ban status is revoked. The musician has been asked to coordinate directly with the KPKNL to obtain a letter for revoking the ban. The incident went viral on social media, sparking reactions from Baladewa, Dewa 19’s fans, who had been anticipating the drummer’s performance on the international stage.
