Devotees Prohibited from Bringing Plastic to Besakih Temple, Canang Remnants Must Be Taken Home
The Ida Bhatara Turun Kabeh (IBTK) ceremony at Pura Agung Besakih in Karangasem, Bali, will take place over 21 days until 23 April 2026. The peak of the ceremony is scheduled for Purnama Kedasa on Thursday, 2 April 2026.
Devotees are prohibited from bringing plastic bags or similar items into the Pura Besakih area during the ceremony. This is in accordance with Bali Governor’s Circular Letter No. 2 of 2026 regarding guidelines for devotees and visitors during the IBTK Ceremony at Pura Agung Besakih.
“I hope all devotees will comply with this for the comfort of everyone. Vendors are also urged not to use plastic or similar materials when selling,” said Bendesa Adat Besakih, Jro Mangku Widiartha, on Wednesday, 25 March 2026.
Widiartha stated that several officers will be deployed to check the belongings of devotees. According to him, officers will also confiscate any plastic found in the possession of devotees.
In addition, devotees are asked to maintain cleanliness in the temple area after completing their worship. Remnants of canang must be taken home by each devotee, as no rubbish bins are provided at Pura Penataran Agung Besakih.
“We hope this year’s IBTK Ceremony runs safely and smoothly as expected,” Widiartha added.
