Devon workers end strike in Sorong
JAKARTA: All 200 workers of American firm Devon Salawati in Sorong, Papua have ended their 10-day strike and started work on Saturday, according to a senior official at state-owned oil and gas firm Pertamina.
Pertamina spokesman for management of production sharing contracts Sidick A. Nitikusuma said on Saturday the workers had agreed to end their strike, while negotiations were in process to consider their demands.
"They (the workers) realized that the local people would face difficulties in getting fuel if they continued their strike," he told The Jakarta Post.
Devon workers went on strike on April 24, demanding a bonus following the acquisition of Devon's assets in Indonesia by Chinese firm Petrochina.
The strike disturbed crude oil supplies to Pertamina's Kasim refinery in Sorong, which has the capacity to process 10,000 bpd of crude oil. The refinery was forced to stop operation several days ago due to the lack of crude oil supplies.-JP
