When economic activities are centered only in particular areas
of a country, there will be developmental gaps and differing
growth rates among regions.

Unfortunately, during the New Order era (from the second half
of the 1960s up to 1998), economic activities were centered on
Java and in some areas on Sumatra. As a result, economic
development in the eastern regions of the country has lagged.
