Development contests proposed

JAKARTA (JP): A senior official proposed yesterday that the
city administration sponsor regular contests at the subdistrict
level to encourage people's participation in development
activities.

City Secretary Harun Al Rasyid said that he was certain such
contests would be an excellent means to speed up development in
each subdistrict across the city.

"People's greater participation is vital so that development
efforts will truly benefit townspeople," he said during a field
trip to the Kalideres subdistrict yesterday.

Kalideres and Pegadungan are among participants of the ongoing
development contest organized by the city administration in
connection with Jakarta's 468th anniversary.

A number of officials, including West Jakarta Mayor
Sutardjianto, and head of the City Directorate of Social and
Political Affairs, Bagus Haryono, visited the two subdistricts
over the weekend.(29)
