Developers summoned over school buildings
JAKARTA (JP): The Bekasi administration has summoned 73 developers for constructing a number of state elementary school (SDN) buildings which don't meet required specifications.
Yaya Ruyatnasih, a spokesperson for the administration, said the developers were briefed on Wednesday by officials of the administration on existing regulations for government projects.
Field studies show that many school buildings constructed by these developers are of poor quality. "Some of them were even built with used materials," Yaya was quoted by the Suara Pembaruan daily as saying.
The substandard quality of the school buildings was revealed after Bekasi Deputy Regent Dede Satibi made a field trip to inspect the projects in the regency late last week.
Due to the many deviations from the building specifications, he formed a team to supervise the construction of all school building projects throughout Bekasi.
Data at the Bekasi office of the Ministry of Education and Culture list the substandard school buildings as: SDN Bojong Rawalumbu in East Bekasi, SDN Dewi Sartika in South Bekasi, SDN Pakuning Tambelang in Tambelang district, SDN Ciranggon in Lemahabang district, SDN Karangbahagia in Cikarang district and SDN Pulauputer in Sukatani district.(hhr)
