Developer's negligence criticized
JAKARTA (JP): Representatives of PT Modernland Realty Ltd.,
the developer which has been repeatedly warned by city
administration for its failure to build public and social
facilities worth Rp 1 billion (US$454,545), failed to show up at
the City Council.
Councilor Banjar Marpaung told reporters at City Council
yesterday that none of the developer's officials, which were
summoned, turned up.
The company, which is located in Cakung, East Jakarta, has
neglected it obligations to build social and public facilities
including schools, a football field and a mosque.
In a related development, Ratih Ratna Purnami, a councilor
from the Indonesian Democratic Party, deplored the city
administration's decision in canceling the revocation of building
permits issued to PT Summarecon.
"The developer should give away the public and social
facilities to the government as required by the municipal
administration," she said. "It is all the more so since PT
Summarecon, as a major housing developer, received a certificate
of appreciation directly from President Soeharto for its
participation in constructing the Bidara Cina apartments
recently. They (the company) should set examples for other
developers to follow in their footsteps."
Last week North Jakarta Mayor Suprawito revoked building
permits of the developer for its failure to comply with a bylaw
on building social and public facilities in each of the housing
complexes a firm builds. (31)
