Developer promises to comply with rules

JAKARTA (JP): PT. Modernland Realty Ltd. has promised to give
away public and social facilities worth Rp 1 billion to East
Jakarta's mayoralty, its director Samadikun Hartono said.

"We have no intention of neglecting our obligations to build
public facilities, as required by the administration, in the
housing complex we are building now," Samadikun said over the
weekend.

He apologized to City Council for being unable to show up for
a meeting with several city councillors last week. "I could not
fulfill the invitation simply because it was given at short
notice," Samadikun said. He reiterated that his company would
comply with the regulation requiring all developers, licensed to
build housing complexes, to set aside part of the developed areas
for public and social facilities, including parks, schools and
mosques.

"We promise that within two years the facilities, including
parks, water drainage, schools and sport facilities in 18 hectare
of land, will be built completely," he added.

But he refused to go into details as to when the facilities
will be handed over to the mayoralty.

Earlier it was widely reported that the developer had been
repeatedly criticized by city administration for refusing to
build public and social facilities worth Rp 1 billion.

Modernland is building about 1.400 houses on 47 hectares of
land in Cakung, East Jakarta. (31)
