Deutsche Telekom eyes Indosat

FRANKFURT (AFP): The German telecoms giant Deutsche Telekom is being seen by the Indonesian government as a potential "strategic partner" for state-owned international phone operator Indonesian Satellite Corp, the Wall Street Journal Europe reported on Monday.

The Indonesian government was no longer seeking to sell shares in Indosat on the stock exchange but was instead seeking a strategic partner.

"We will be talking to Deutsche Telekom" as such a partner, the newspaper quoted state enterprises minister Tanri Abeng as saying.

Indonesia is selling stakes in some 12 companies this year in a bid to raise capital for the state budget. It already sold a 9.6-percent stake in domestic call operator PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia in April, raising about 404 million dollars, the newspaper said.
