Determination of People's School Location in Tasikmalaya Awaits Mayor's Decision
The Tasikmalaya City Government in West Java is still refining the determination of the location for the construction of the People’s School (SR) building. Several sites in Bungursari, Tamansari, Mangkubumi, Kawalu, and Purbaratu sub-districts have been surveyed, but the final decision awaits the determination by the Mayor of Tasikmalaya.
Tasikmalaya Deputy Mayor, Rd Diky Candranegara, stated that a team from the Social Services Office, the Regional Disaster Management Agency, and related agencies has conducted inspections of several potential locations. The survey results have been reported to the regional leadership.
“We have submitted to the Mayor of Tasikmalaya regarding the location for the construction of the projected People’s School building, and now we are just waiting for the location to be determined. Because, once the location is set, we will immediately propose it to the Ministry of Social Affairs,” said Diky on Tuesday (31/3).
He explained that the local government targets to finalise and sign the location recommendation as soon as possible to accelerate the submission process to the Ministry of Social Affairs. One of the main considerations in determining the location is the condition of the land, which is relatively flat, to reduce land preparation costs.
“The Ministry of Social Affairs has allocated around Rp6 billion for the construction of the People’s School, with the condition that the local government must provide land of 6.4 to 7.5 hectares,” he said.
According to Diky, the presence of the People’s School is expected to expand access to free education for underprivileged communities while opening up employment opportunities for educators in the area.
In addition, the programme is also seen as having the potential to improve education quality and encourage economic growth in the local community.
However, he emphasised that determining the land is the primary requirement before the submission to the central government can proceed. “The determination of the location for the construction of the projected People’s School building in the Bungursari, Tamansari, Mangkubumi, Kawalu, and Purbaratu sub-district areas now just awaits the decision of the Mayor of Tasikmalaya. Because, we do not have the policy, and that decision lies with the regional leadership,” he stated.
The Tasikmalaya City Government hopes that the location decision can be made soon so that the construction of the People’s School can be realised promptly.
