A fire swept through the detention cell building at the Negara District Prosecutor’s Office (Kejari) in Jembrana Regency on Tuesday morning (8/9/2026). The blaze, which destroyed the women’s and children’s detention cell area, was extinguished by firefighters from the Jembrana Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) within 30 minutes.

The fire was first noticed by a security officer at the Negara Prosecutor’s Office at around 09.18 WITA. Whilst on duty at the security post, the witness smelled a strong burning odour.

Initially, the officer on duty suspected the smell came from cleaning staff burning rubbish. However, the burning odour grew stronger, raising his suspicion.

“Sensing something was wrong, the witness immediately patrolled to find the source of the smell and discovered that the detention cell building was already on fire,” said the Head of Jembrana Satpol PP, I Ketut Eko Susilo Artha Permana, when confirmed by detikBali.

Upon seeing the flames, the witness attempted initial suppression using a portable fire extinguisher (APAR). However, as the fire grew larger, he immediately contacted the Jembrana Fire Brigade Headquarters.

“Upon receiving the report, the standby fire crew went straight to the location. Three fire vehicles were deployed: the Altora vehicle, the Red Tank, and the Hino Monitor vehicle. A total of 8,500 litres of water was used to extinguish the fire,” Eko explained.

The firefighting operation took approximately 30 minutes before the fire was fully extinguished and the location declared safe. The area burned was the women’s and children’s detention cell building measuring 7x4 square metres, consisting of two cells.

“A number of items inside the building were destroyed by the flames. The items burned included three LED televisions, documents and archives, wooden tables and chairs, a sofa, and wooden cabinets,” Eko said.

There were no fatalities or injuries in the incident. The exact cause of the fire and the total material losses are still under investigation by the authorities.

“The cause of the fire is still being investigated by the police. Fortunately, there were no casualties in this incident,” Eko concluded.
