Meidi Azhar (37), a defendant in a narcotics case, has been implicated in a new offence after being charged with carrying 4.9 grammes of methamphetamine from the holding cell of the Denpasar District Prosecutor’s Office (Kejari) to the Class IIA Kerobokan Prison. The case began its hearings at the Denpasar District Court (PN) on Thursday (23/7/2026).

Meidi was previously entangled in a narcotics case involving 9.84 grammes of methamphetamine as evidence. In that case, he and Thobroni were charged with criminal conspiracy to purchase 10 grammes of methamphetamine for Rp 9.5 million from an individual named Boni, also known as Antok, who is now on the wanted list (DPO).

Public Prosecutor (JPU) I Ketut Yasa stated that the new offence occurred on 21 April 2026, after Meidi had completed a hearing for his prior narcotics case. While waiting to be returned to Kerobokan Prison in the Kejari Denpasar holding cell, Meidi was charged with receiving two packages of methamphetamine from a man called Pak Tut, who is also now a fugitive.

Meidi was allegedly promised a fee of Rp 300,000 to carry the packages into the prison and hand them over to someone. After receiving the packages, Meidi hid them in his groin.

“So, after the previous narcotics case hearing concluded, the defendant returned to the Kejari Denpasar holding cell. There, he was approached by someone claiming to be Pak Tut and asked to bring two packages into Kerobokan Prison. The defendant was promised a fee of Rp 300,000,” said I Ketut Yasa, reading from the indictment.

According to Yasa, Meidi had informed Pak Tut of the cell he occupied in Kerobokan Prison. The items were then to be collected by someone inside the prison.

“After receiving the packages, the defendant knew the items were narcotics. The packages were then hidden in his groin area before the defendant returned to Kerobokan Prison,” he said.

Meidi subsequently returned to Kerobokan Prison with other detainees. During a search, prison officers discovered a suspicious lump in his groin area.

Officers asked Meidi to remove the object. He then produced one package wrapped in black duct tape marked with the code A1.

Officers then took Meidi to the Prison Security Unit Post (Pos KPLP) for further examination. A subsequent search uncovered another black duct tape package marked with the code A2.

Weighing results showed that package A1 weighed 1.95 grammes, while package A2 weighed 2.95 grammes. The total weight of both packages was 4.90 grammes.

“The two packages were then weighed, and the total weight was 4.90 grammes. Laboratory examination results confirmed the evidence tested positive for methamphetamine,” Yasa explained.

The forensic laboratory examination by the Bali Regional Police confirmed both packages tested positive for methamphetamine, classified as a Category I Narcotic.

In case number 753/Pid.Sus/2026/PN Dps, Meidi is charged with alternative counts.

In the first charge, Meidi is accused of violating Article 114 paragraph (1) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, in conjunction with Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, in conjunction with Law Number 1 of 2026 concerning Criminal Adjustments.

Meanwhile, in the second charge, Meidi is accused of violating Article 609 paragraph (1) letter a of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, in conjunction with Law Number 1 of 2026 concerning Criminal Adjustments.

In the previous case, Meidi and Thobroni were charged with attempting or conspiring to purchase 10 grammes of methamphetamine from Boni alias Antok. Meidi was said to have collected a methamphetamine package hidden in bushes in the Padangsambian area. Upon arrest, police found two packages of methamphetamine with a total weight of 9.84 grammes.

Further investigation led to Thobroni. In his rented room, police found five packages of methamphetamine with a total weight of 2 grammes. In that case, both were charged with violating Article 114 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1) of the Narcotics Law, or Article 609 paragraph (2) letter a of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1) of the Narcotics Law.
