Detainee in Jambi escapes with family’s help after trial; officers attacked
One prisoner from the State Prosecutor’s Office (Kejari) in Tebo, Jambi, escaped after undergoing a trial at the Tebo District Court. The defendant, named Bujang Rimbo, escaped with assistance from his family. The incident occurred on Wednesday (4 March 2026) at around 17:30 Western Indonesian Time. Bujang, who is the defendant in a sexual offences case, is a member of the Anak Dalam (SAD) indigenous community, including the victim, who is known to be related. Head of Kejari Tebo Abdurachman said the trial initially proceeded safely and calmly until it concluded, with the next session scheduled for 11 March 2026 for the reading of the indictment. The prosecutors had also coordinated with the TNI and police to provide security. In addition, Kejari Tebo conducted outreach and mediation with the defendant’s family, the victim’s family, and SAD leaders. In the meeting, most members of the indigenous group asked for the defendant to be released and for the legal process to be halted because they believe a traditional adat peace had been reached between the families.
