Detainee found dead in Bogor

BOGOR (JP): A defendant in a rape case was found dead in his
isolation cell at the Paledang penitentiary.

The warden, Agus Toyip, said that the victim, identified as
Edi Suhendi, 59, was found dead by a guard who was on patrol at
around 1:50 a.m.

He said the employee was suspicious when he saw Edi standing
with his back leaning against the iron-bared door of his cell. It
turned out that Edi had hang himself from the iron bars by tying
his sarong around his neck.

Edi was being tried for allegedly sexually abusing his
daughter since 1993.

Agus said the detainee was put in solitary confinement for his
own safety as other prisoners hate rapists. (21)
