Detained Pertamina boss hospitalized
JAKARTA (JP): Former president of state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina Faisal Abda'oe, currently under house arrest by the Attorney General's Office, was treated at Pertamina Hospital in South Jakarta for a heart attack late Thursday.
Prosecutor Barman Zahir said his office had issued a letter allowing Abda'oe to be treated at the hospital due to his deteriorating health.
"Permission was granted for humanitarian reasons," Barman said, adding that the prosecutors would also closely monitor Abda'oe during his stay in hospital.
Abda'oe was initially detained at the prosecutor's office and later kept under house arrest due to his poor health.
He was named as a suspect in a corruption case in the oil piping project involving Pertamina and PT Ustraindo Petro Gas, partly owned by former Soeharto's eldest daughter Siti Hardiyanti "Tutut" Indra Rukmana.
The alleged corruption reportedly caused US$24.8 million in losses to the state. (emf)
