Desy questioned in heroin arrest

JAKARTA (JP): Police questioned actress Desy Ratnasari and four other people on Sunday after a small packet of heroin, worth Rp 35,000 (US$4), was thrown from her car during a random check.

City police chief of detectives for narcotics crimes Lt. Col. Abdullah identified the others as main suspect Iman Dakka, Desy's former university friend Poppy, Poppy's sister Yosi and Desy's driver Hassan.

Abdullah said Desi, Yosi, Poppy and Hassan were detained and questioned as witnesses at city police headquarters.

"The main suspect is Iman Dakka. The five were riding in Desi's green metallic Toyota Land Cruiser, with registration number B 238 NZ, and were stopped by police on Jl. Asia Afrika in Senayan, Central Jakarta, at about 3 p.m.," Abdullah told The Jakarta Post.

"Police stopped the car to check the car papers. Suddenly, they saw someone throw a small packet out of the window. It was Iman. The packet contained .25 grams of heroin."

The five remained under questioning by Capt. Sigit Gumantio of the narcotics crime section late on Sunday night.

Officers from the city police health division took a blood sample from Desy before she was escorted under heavy security from Sigit's office to a nearby toilet to submit a urine sample.

A police source said the five were heading to the Jakarta Convention Center in Central Jakarta to view a computer exhibition.

"Desy wanted to buy a computer. She took Poppy with her because Poppy knows about computers," the source said.

Abdullah said Iman told officers during questioning that he was an addict for three years but was now clean.

"But he started searching for it (heroin) again."

Desy, long one of the country's top television actresses, created a media frenzy in recent weeks when she announced she would divorce Trenadi Pramudya, a power equipment firm employee, at the Sukabumi District Court, West Java. (ylt)
