Destry wants BI to remain relevant in responding to challenges during DPR test
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Bank Indonesia (BI) governor candidate Destry Damayanti is promoting a vision to make BI an institution that remains relevant in responding to challenges, as conveyed during her fit and proper test before House Commission XI on Wednesday. The vision also includes making BI credible in maintaining stability and encouraging sustainable economic growth.
“Considering the economic challenges and the mandate carried by Bank Indonesia, if we are entrusted to become Governor of Bank Indonesia, we will carry out a vision supported by three missions and five strategic initiatives,” Destry said in her presentation at the House Commission XI meeting room in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Furthermore, the first mission is to maintain stability as a foundation for supporting sustainable economic growth. The second mission is to contribute to supporting sustainable economic growth. The third mission is to strengthen synergy with various stakeholders through the Sinergi Merah Putih.
The first strategic initiative is strengthening BI’s policy mix. Destry explained that BI’s policy mix will continue to be strengthened to respond to pressures on the external sector, exchange rates, and inflation so as to create a conducive economic climate that can support price stability to drive economic growth.
The second strategic initiative is foreign exchange flow policy (LDD). According to Destry, foreign exchange flow policy will receive serious attention in accordance with BI’s mandate under the law. With various challenges related to the external sector both from the macro side and LLD infrastructure, Destry said that going forward, her side will refocus and revitalise LLD policy, particularly regarding digital-based supervision and suptech.
“This is very important considering the considerable potential for under-invoicing, but we cannot do it alone because data related to LLD involves many parties,” she explained.
The third strategic initiative relates to inclusive and sustainable finance, where quality economic growth must be felt by all levels of society. According to her, inclusion and sharia are also major game changers for Indonesia to drive 8 percent economic growth.
In addition, Destry stated that she will strengthen inclusive financing through strengthening macroprudential policy. BI’s sustainable finance policy will also continue to be refined for instruments and methods of calculating emissions and carbon that will later be used by companies and banks.
The fourth strategic initiative relates to institutional governance and innovation. BI’s increasingly large mandate, according to Destry, must be balanced with an increasingly strong institution.
“Bank Indonesia’s credibility is not something that can be built instantly but is the result of an accumulation of integrity, consistency, innovation and long-term synergy,” said Destry.
The fifth strategic initiative is Sinergi Merah Putih, which is the common thread connecting all policies. Destry believes that BI’s success is not determined by its ability to work alone, but by its ability to build Sinergi Merah Putih with all stakeholders.
This collaboration is translated into various real programmes aligned with the Asta Cita vision, ranging from strengthening food security, downstreaming and industrialisation, human resource development, regional development, economic digitalisation, to institutional reform.
Destry said that her side will prioritise the “3I” and “1S” aspects in implementing policies, namely impactful, inclusive, and integration, all of which are believed to be achievable through synergy.
“For us, synergy is not just about working together, but about uniting strengths, complementing each other, and moving in harmony to achieve better results than can be achieved if we work alone,” said Destry.
For information, Destry Damayanti, who currently serves as Acting Governor of BI, is the sole candidate for BI Governor proposed by President Prabowo Subianto based on a Presidential Letter to the House of Representatives. Destry has served as Acting Governor of BI following Perry Warjiyo’s voluntary resignation from the position of BI Governor for personal reasons on 25 July 2026.
On the same day, Wednesday afternoon, House Commission XI will also hold a fit and proper test for the candidate for Senior Deputy Governor of BI, namely Aida S. Budiman. Meanwhile, the fit and proper test for BI Deputy Governor candidates is scheduled to take place on Thursday (27/8). For the BI Deputy Governor candidate, there are two names proposed, namely Solikin M. Juhro and M. Anwar Bashori.
