Destry Reveals Foreign Exchange Policy Plans in DPR, Mentions Underinvoicing

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Bank Indonesia (BI) governor candidate Destry Damayanti presented her plans for foreign exchange traffic policy during a fit and proper test with Commission XI of the House of Representatives (DPR) in Jakarta on Wednesday (26/8/2026).

“Foreign exchange traffic policy will be a serious focus for us, in accordance with BI’s mandate under the law, given the various challenges. Going forward, we will refocus and revitalise foreign exchange traffic policy, particularly in relation to supervision,” she explained.

The challenges she referred to include fragmentation of data sources, data quality issues, the need to strengthen foreign exchange traffic data infrastructure, and the potential for underinvoicing and transfer pricing.

“This is very important given the considerable potential for underinvoicing, but we cannot do it alone because foreign exchange traffic involves many parties,” said Destry.

Therefore, synergy and coordination are needed in the implementation of foreign exchange traffic policy between ministries and agencies and relevant stakeholders. These include the export-import data system, exporters, and the banking sector, to strengthen governance and cross-authority supervision.

The next step is to accelerate the transformation of foreign exchange traffic data acquisition and utilisation, including end-to-end metadata standardisation, more timely and comprehensive data acquisition, and strengthened integration across foreign exchange traffic data sources.

Furthermore, Destry said supervision would be strengthened using supervisory technology to monitor foreign exchange traffic quickly, in a timely manner, and effectively.
