Destry Responds to Questions on Potential Candidacy for Permanent BI Governor

Acting Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Destry Damayanti has stated that she is solely focused on carrying out her duties in accordance with the constitution, deflecting questions about her potential candidacy for the permanent governor position. Speaking to reporters at the Presidential Palace complex in Central Jakarta on Monday (27/7/2026), Destry emphasised that her current role is to serve as the temporary head of the central bank following the voluntary resignation of Perry Warjiyo. She clarified that the resignation was submitted voluntarily on 25 July 2026 and dismissed any speculation of external pressure. Regarding the selection of a definitive BI Governor, Destry explained that the process will adhere to the established legal framework, with the President nominating a candidate for approval by the House of Representatives (DPR). She confirmed that the meeting did not discuss any potential candidates for the permanent position.
