Destry Officially Appointed as BI Governor; Purbaya Hopes KSSK Policy Instruments Can Be Refined
Jakarta, VIVA – Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa expressed hope that with the appointment of Destry Damayanti as the new Governor of Bank Indonesia, the instruments used to assess economic conditions and market liquidity can be improved. This refinement is intended to be carried out through the Financial System Stability Committee (KSSK) forum to better reflect real-world conditions.
Purbaya made these remarks when responding to journalists regarding the need for deeper coordination following the inauguration of Bank Indonesia Governor Destry Damayanti.
“The KSSK meets routinely. We will attempt to sharpen our instruments to monitor economic conditions and market liquidity, so that we do not repeat past mistakes,” said Pujuaya at the Supreme Court in Jakarta, as reported on Thursday, 3 September 2026.
Reflecting on recent conditions, Purbaya admitted that he was among those who were late in assessing liquidity conditions within the economic system by relying solely on indicators such as liquid assets to non-core deposits (AL/NCD) and liquid assets to third-party funds (DPK) in general. However, upon closer examination, the banking sector was clearly facing liquidity challenges.
“That is one of the things we must improve. We want to develop tools that truly observe the real conditions on the ground,” said Purbaya.
Meanwhile, the Chair of the Board of Commissioners of the Financial Services Authority (OJK), Friderica Widyasari Dewi, expressed hope that coordination between the OJK and BI within the KSSK framework—alongside the Ministry of Finance and the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS)—would continue to strengthen.
She stated that synergy in maintaining stability through policy coordination must be conducted while respecting the independence of each respective institution.
“However, certainly, all of this must be coordinated and synergised to prevent conflicting policies and to ensure our synergy in guaranteeing financial system stability,” said Friderica.
On Wednesday, Destry Damayanti was officially inaugurated as the Governor of Bank Indonesia for the 2026-2031 term, after taking her oath of office before the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Sunarto.
On the same occasion, Aida S. Budiman also took her oath of office as Senior Deputy Governor of BI, alongside Solikin M. Juhro as Deputy Governor of BI.
This inauguration was established based on the Decree of the President of the Republic of Indonesia Number 92/P of 2026, dated 1 September 2026, regarding the Dismissal and Appointment of the Board of Governors of Bank Indonesia.
