Senior Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) Destry Damayanti has been appointed acting Governor of the central bank following the resignation of Perry Warjiyo. She has assured that she will carry out her duties to the fullest. The decision was made during a Board of Governors meeting on Sunday (26/7), in accordance with Law No. 23 of 1999 on Bank Indonesia, as last amended by Law No. 4 of 2026 on Financial Sector Development and Strengthening. “Bank Indonesia will always ensure the continuity of its duties and authorities to achieve rupiah exchange rate stability, maintain payment system stability, and help preserve financial system stability in order to support sustainable economic growth, which can create a conducive economic environment for real sector growth and job creation, as mandated by the Bank Indonesia Law,” Destry said at a press conference in Jakarta on Monday, 27 July 2026. In carrying out these duties and authorities, Destry stressed that Bank Indonesia will also continue to prioritise good and professional institutional governance. Furthermore, Bank Indonesia will keep synergising and coordinating with the government in executing their respective duties and mandates. During the press conference held at the BI building in Jakarta, Destry revealed the reason for Perry’s resignation, stating that the decision was made voluntarily by Perry for personal reasons. “The resignation of Mr Perry Warjiyo from the position of BI Governor was voluntary, due to personal reasons on 25 July 2026,” Destry said. However, Destry did not elaborate further on the specific personal reasons Perry cited as the background for his decision to resign.
