Destry Damayanti Sole Candidate for BI Governor, Airlangga Gives Unexpected Comment

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto has spoken out about Destry Damayanti becoming the sole candidate for the definitive Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI).

Airlangga said Destry is the most suitable candidate for the definitive BI governor because she has long served as Senior Deputy Governor of BI.

“Very suitable, because Mrs Destry has been Senior Deputy Governor for more than one period and her communication within BI has been good all this time,” Airlangga told reporters at his office on Monday (10/8/2026).

Even so, Airlangga is still waiting for the results of the fit and proper test to be conducted by the House of Representatives (DPR).

“So with that, the hope is that with this single name, she can be selected through the DPR,” he explained.

Meanwhile, regarding candidates for Senior Deputy Governor and Deputy Governor, he is still waiting for the DPR’s fit and proper test.

“We will just see how the discussion goes in the DPR,” said Airlangga.

Previously, President Prabowo Subianto had sent a letter to the House of Representatives (DPR) regarding the BI Governor candidate.

This was conveyed by Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi to reporters at Nusantara III Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (10/8/2026).

“The name is a single name, Mrs Destry Damayanti,” said Prasetyo.

Destry is the Acting Governor of BI who has been serving since Perry Warjiyo resigned.

The President’s letter also includes the candidate for Senior Deputy Governor of BI.
