Destry Damayanti Officially Becomes Acting Governor, Replacing Perry Warjiyo

A strategic move has occurred within Indonesia’s monetary authority. Minister of State Secretary Pratikno confirmed that Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo has submitted a letter of resignation after leading the central bank for more than seven years. This step marks the end of Perry Warjiyo’s two-term leadership, during which he safeguarded national monetary stability.

The government is currently processing the resignation letter administratively before issuing a Presidential Decree regarding his honourable discharge. “The resignation from Bank Indonesia to the President is, of course, in accordance with the applicable mechanisms and laws. The President, in accepting the resignation of Mr Perry Warjiyo, naturally extends his highest gratitude and appreciation for his dedication over more than seven years of leading Bank Indonesia,” said Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, speaking to the media on Monday (27/7/2026).

Referring to the mechanism of the Bank Indonesia Law, the vacant position of BI Governor will be filled by the Senior Deputy Governor as the Acting Governor. Consequently, Destry Damayanti, who serves as the Senior Deputy Governor of BI, is confirmed to take over the leadership of the central bank to ensure the continuity of monetary policy and the stability of the national financial system.

Responding to this mandate, Destry Damayanti affirmed BI’s commitment to continue maintaining national economic stability and strengthening coordination with stakeholders. “Stability of the payment system and helping to maintain financial system stability in order to support sustainable economic growth that can create a conducive economic environment for real sector growth and job creation, in accordance with the mandate of the Bank Indonesia Law,” said Destry.

She added that all of BI’s future strategic measures will continue to be carried out by prioritising the principles of accountability and synergy with the government. “In carrying out these duties and authorities, Bank Indonesia continues to prioritise good and professional institutional governance, and will continue to synergise and coordinate with the government in carrying out our respective duties and mandates,” she stated.
