Destry Damayanti as BI Governor: Kowani Hails Proof of Women's Leadership

The Indonesian Women’s Congress (Kowani) considers the appointment of Destry Damayanti as Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) for the 2026-2031 period as proof of women’s leadership.

“Kowani congratulates Ibu Destry Damayanti. May Allah SWT always provide guidance, strength, health and blessings in every stage of the mandate entrusted to her, and later in leading Bank Indonesia to maintain stability and strengthen the national economy,” said Kowani Chairwoman Nannie Hadi Tjahjanto in Jakarta on Monday.

According to her, the trust placed in Destry Damayanti is a source of pride and at the same time demonstrates the growing capacity of Indonesian women to take on leadership roles in strategic national institutions.

Kowani views women’s leadership in strategic state institutions not merely as a matter of representation, but as recognition of the competence, integrity, professionalism, experience and capacity of women in determining the direction of national development.

Support for women’s leadership at Bank Indonesia also emerged during the fit-and-proper test at Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI).

During the process, Destry Damayanti presented the “Sinergi Merah Putih” vision, which places inter-agency synergy and coordination as the foundation for maintaining stability while driving inclusive, quality and sustainable Indonesian economic growth.

Nannie Hadi Tjahjanto expressed hope that Destry Damayanti’s leadership will further strengthen Bank Indonesia’s contribution in maintaining monetary and financial system stability, while supporting inclusive economic growth, strengthening MSMEs, empowering women’s and family economies, and improving the welfare of the Indonesian people.

“May all subsequent processes proceed smoothly and the mandate entrusted bring the greatest possible benefit to the nation and state,” she said.
