Destry Damayanti has been appointed by the House of Representatives (DPR) as the Governor of Bank Indonesia for the 2026-2031 period. She is scheduled to be inaugurated as the leader of the central bank at the Supreme Court (MA) tomorrow, 2 September 2026.

Destry stated that as the leader of Bank Indonesia for the next five years, she will focus on formulating policies that support Indonesia’s economic stability. This is due to her observation that global economic uncertainty remains very high.

“If we look at the global situation, uncertainty is still high. This means that stability remains our priority,” said Destry following the approval of the DPR Plenary Session as the new BI Governor on Tuesday (1/9/2026).

Destry considers stability to be essential as it creates a conducive economic climate for faster growth. Consequently, she ensured that her focus will remain on managing inflation, price pressures, and the Rupiah exchange rate.

“Because if our economy is stable, we can also continue to maintain a stable exchange rate and stable inflation, which will certainly create a conducive economic climate for our economy to grow again,” she emphasised.

With this note, Destry believes that her policy stance will not significantly deviate from the central bank’s existing approach to facing global economic shocks.

“So, the stance remains the same; since global uncertainty is still high, stability remains the key for us,” Destry explained.
