Destry Damayanti Appointed Acting Governor of Bank Indonesia
Destry Damayanti, the Senior Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI), has been appointed as the acting Governor of BI following the resignation of Perry Warjiyo from his post. The decision was made during a Board of Governors meeting on Sunday (26/7) and is in accordance with Law No. 23 of 1999 concerning Bank Indonesia, as amended several times, most recently by Law No. 4 of 2026 on Financial Sector Development and Strengthening. “Bank Indonesia will always ensure the continuity of its duties and authority to achieve rupiah exchange rate stability, maintain payment system stability, and help preserve financial system stability in order to support sustainable economic growth, which can create a conducive economic environment for real sector growth and job creation in accordance with the mandate of the Bank Indonesia Law,” Destry said at a press conference in Jakarta on Monday. In carrying out these duties and authorities, Destry stressed that Bank Indonesia also prioritises good and professional institutional governance. Furthermore, Bank Indonesia will continue to synergise and coordinate with the government in carrying out their respective duties and mandates. Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi announced Perry Warjiyo’s resignation on Monday morning. “As of yesterday (Sunday, 26/7), we officially received a letter of resignation from the Governor of BI to the President, and in accordance with the applicable mechanisms and laws, particularly the Bank Indonesia Law, the President has accepted the resignation of Mr Perry Warjiyo, accompanied by the highest gratitude and appreciation for his dedication over the past seven years,” Prasetyo said at the BI office, accompanied by other members of the BI Board of Governors.
