Destry commits to strengthening forex monitoring to prevent under-invoicing
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Bank Indonesia (BI) governor candidate Destry Damayanti has expressed her commitment to strengthening monitoring of foreign exchange flows (LLD) more granularly to prevent the still significant potential for under-invoicing practices.
She said the strengthening would be carried out through refocusing and revitalising foreign exchange flow policy, particularly regarding digital-based supervision and supervisory technology (suptech).
“Under the Law, we do have a mandate to monitor LLD. So this is something we will certainly strengthen further going forward. Because so far our monitoring has indeed been partial,” Destry said during a fit and proper test in Jakarta on Wednesday.
In an impromptu interview, Destry explained that strengthening LLD monitoring also supports the role of Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI).
In line with this, BI will cross-check export data collected by DSI so that foreign exchange flow monitoring can be carried out more comprehensively.
“Because DSI will collect all of that. Of course there will be cross-checks as well,” Destry said.
She added that in this regard, BI will continue to coordinate with DSI because the data needed for monitoring foreign exchange flows involves various parties and therefore needs to be complementary.
Destry explained that export-import data is actually also available through the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC), which issues export customs declaration documents (PPE).
However, this data needs to be matched with payment data received by BI to ensure that the payments correspond to the recorded export transactions.
According to her, the data matching process will continue to be strengthened through the existing system, namely SiMoDIS (Instant Integrated Foreign Exchange Monitoring Information System), which is used by BI together with Customs and Excise.
Destry said optimisation of SiMoDIS is necessary, especially considering that the value on PPE documents can change during the transaction process, among other things due to exchange rate depreciation or changes in goods quality.
“So we hope that with a better system, we can truly know that the incoming LLD is indeed in accordance with the truly final PPE,” Destry said.
For information, Destry Damayanti, who currently serves as Acting Governor of BI, is the sole candidate for BI Governor proposed by President Prabowo Subianto based on a Presidential Letter to the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI).
Destry has served as Acting Governor of BI following the voluntary resignation of Perry Warjiyo from the position of BI Governor for personal reasons on 25 July 2026.
On the same day, Wednesday, Commission XI of the DPR RI held a fit and proper test for the candidate for Senior Deputy Governor of BI, namely Aida S. Budiman.
Meanwhile, the fit and proper test for BI Deputy Governor candidates is scheduled to take place on Thursday (27/8). For the BI Deputy Governor candidate, two names have been proposed, namely Solikin M. Juhro and M. Anwar Bashori.
