Destry: BI Leadership Remains Collective and Collegial After Perry's Resignation
Acting Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) Destry Damayanti has confirmed that the leadership of Indonesia’s central bank will continue to be conducted in a collective and collegial manner, as has been the practice, following the resignation of Perry Warjiyo from the post of BI Governor. “At Bank Indonesia, the leadership is collective and collegial. So, the five of us here (members of the BI Board of Governors) will continue to carry out the duties and mandate that must be executed by Bank Indonesia collectively and collegially,” Destry said during a press conference in Jakarta on Monday. She explained that BI also has a well-established hierarchical decision-making mechanism which will remain the guideline in every decision-making process, including decisions made during the Board of Governors’ Meeting. Following Perry Warjiyo’s resignation, Destry also assured that the central bank will continue to carry out its duties and mandate in accordance with the prevailing mechanisms and by referring to international best practices. Overall, BI stated that Perry Warjiyo’s resignation from the position of Governor on Saturday (25/7) was voluntary and due to personal reasons. The resignation is in accordance with Article 48 paragraph (1) letter a of Law Number 23 of 1999 concerning Bank Indonesia, as amended most recently by Law Number 4 of 2026 concerning the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector (P2SK). Destry’s appointment as Acting Governor was decided through a Board of Governors’ Meeting on Sunday (26/7), in accordance with Article 50 paragraph (2) of the Bank Indonesia Law. “Bank Indonesia will always ensure the continuity of its duties and authority to achieve rupiah exchange rate stability, maintain payment system stability, and help safeguard financial system stability in order to support sustainable economic growth, which can create a conducive economic environment for real sector growth and job creation in accordance with the mandate of the Bank Indonesia Law,” Destry said.
