Despite Prabowo's Invitation, Megawati Refuses to Walk in Front of Gibran

JAKARTA — Former President Megawati Soekarnoputri appeared to decline President Prabowo Subianto’s request to walk together towards the podium for the Pancasila Birth Day ceremony at the Pancasila Building, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Central Jakarta, on Monday (1 June 2026).

According to the live broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel, ceremony officer Brigadier General Fitriana Nur initially reported to Prabowo that the Pancasila Birth Day ceremony was about to begin.

Gibran was positioned to the right of Prabowo, while Megawati was to his left.

Prabowo and Gibran wore black suits, whereas Megawati donned a pink-and-orange kebaya with an orange scarf.

However, Megawati declined and gestured for Prabowo to proceed. She remained behind him, and Gibran did not walk alongside her as they moved towards the ceremony podium.

Several former presidents and vice presidents attended the Pancasila Birth Day commemoration, including Megawati, Jusuf Kalla, and Ma’ruf Amin.

Attendees from the Red and White Cabinet included Economic Affairs Coordinating Minister Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago, Coordinating Minister for Law and Human Rights Imipas Yusril Ihza Mahendra, and Food Coordinating Minister Zulkifli Hasan.

Other attendees were DEN Chairman Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Army Chief of Staff General Maruli Simanjuntak, Investment Minister Rosan Roeslani, Culture Minister Fadli Zon, Deputy Minister for Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions, Interior Minister Tito Karnavian, Presidential Chief of Staff Dudung Abdurachman, Cooperatives Minister Ferry Juliantono, TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Labour Minister Yasierli, Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo, and Bappenas Chief Rachmat Pambudy.
