Despite Being Rushed, Pramono Says Manggarai LRT Still Prioritises Safety Factors
JAKARTA - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has ensured that safety aspects are the primary priority in the Jakarta LRT project towards Manggarai Station. He emphasised that accelerating the project work will not overlook the safety of passengers or train operations. The statement was made by Pramono to address public concerns regarding the LRT project, which is deemed to be rushed in order to operate in August 2026. According to Pramono, the operational target in August 2026 has been set since the beginning of the project. Therefore, the current work is focused on the testing or commissioning phase before full service is opened to the public. Pramono explained that commissioning is the trial phase to ensure the entire LRT system runs safely and smoothly. Testing is conducted from the train series to the arrangement of distances between trains or headway. He hopes that after the entire testing process is completed, the Jakarta LRT to Manggarai Station can be immediately inaugurated and operate fully according to the target. “My hope is that in August, once inaugurated, it will operate fully,” he said. It is known that Jakarta LRT Phase 1B began undergoing the testing and commissioning phase on 29-30 April 2026. Trials are conducted on the 3.6 kilometre track from Velodrome to Pasar Pramuka as preparation for operations. With construction progress that has exceeded 90 percent, the project undertaken by Waskita Karya is now approaching the operational stage. Jakarta LRT Phase 1B is expected to be able to carry tens of thousands of passengers every day while helping to reduce congestion in Jakarta.
