Despite a Difficult Economy, Daihatsu Has Not Yet Adjusted Car Prices
JAKARTA, Kompas.com - PT Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM) confirms its vehicle prices remain stable and have not risen in the last four months, even as the automotive sector continues to face production-cost pressures and global economic dynamics. The current state of the automotive industry faces challenges ranging from movements in raw-material costs, reliance on imported components, to exchange-rate fluctuations that affect production costs. However, Daihatsu has chosen to implement internal adjustments to keep prices to consumers stable. ‘The fluctuations will need to be adjusted, but the sustainability of the industry must go on,’ said Sri Agung in Tangerang on Wednesday (20 May 2026). He explained that the localisation level of Daihatsu components in Indonesia has now risen to more than 80 percent. Still, some components remain imported, so they remain sensitive to changes in global costs. In facing this, they have implemented steps such as cost production efficiency, restructuring on the manufacturing side, and strengthening cooperation with the supply chain to push for increased local content. ‘So we are doing a few things, we restructure costs and implement efficiency in our manufacturing. Then we also discuss with the supply chain to find solutions for the localisation development of several components,’ Sri Agung said. Daihatsu also emphasised that to date there has been no vehicle-price adjustment, although cost pressures have begun to be felt since the start of the year. The company remains cautious so that changes in industry conditions are not directly charged to consumers, especially the first-car buyer segment which is their main market. ‘At this time there is no Daihatsu price increase. In the four months to date there has been no price increase,’ Sri Agung said. On the other hand, the company sees the automotive market still supported by the affordable-vehicle segment and growth in rural areas, which become a new source of demand. This condition helps maintain sales stability amid a consumer purchasing power that is challenging. KOMPAS.com is committed to providing clear, reliable, and balanced facts.
