Derom condemns CPO leakage
MEDAN, North Sumatra: The Indonesian Palm Oil Employers Association expressed concern on Thursday about the spill of hundreds of kilo-liters of crude palm oil onto docks in the port of Belawan.
Chairman Derom Bangun said the spill on Wednesday, which was caused by a leak in an oil pipe, could deter oil producers from using the port to send their products overseas. The pipe connects a storage facility with ships and tankers transporting the oil.
Belawan is one of the largest seaports in Indonesia through which crude palm oil -- amounting between 8,000 and 10,000 tons per day on average -- was exported to other countries. -- JP
