Actor Derby Romero has responded to the enforcement of PP Tunas (Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025), which requires digital platforms to protect children by limiting access based on age, verifying data, and filtering harmful content. According to him, this regulation is important for shielding children from negative content on social media. “It’s important, perhaps because if it’s that unrestricted, it might not be good for children,” said Derby during an interview at Republika’s office in South Jakarta on Tuesday (31/3/2026). Derby, who has a four-year-old child, stated that built-in app features like parental controls are not sufficiently secure for children. Therefore, he believes PP Tunas can serve as an effort to strengthen child data protection in the digital world. “Sometimes content filters can’t be adjusted like that; perhaps that’s what needs to be controlled, so there’s a filter. For example, even on YouTube, there’s YouTube Kids, which I think is better,” he said. Nevertheless, as a parent, Derby admits to still providing digital access to his child while maintaining supervision and limits. Because, according to him, children still need to be digitally literate no matter what. “For me, in this era, it’s also important for children to start becoming aware of the digital world. Because that’s the future, but the boundaries might be through sorting, providing age-appropriate viewing, like that,” he said.
