Derby DIY Between PSIM Jogja and PSS Sleman Next Season: Will Supporters Be Allowed to Attend?
The DIY derby between PSIM Jogja and PSS Sleman will take place in the top tier of the Super League next season. Concerns have emerged regarding the venue for the derby, given the intense passion of the two clubs’ supporter groups.
Regarding this, the Yogyakarta Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Anggoro Sukartono, said he does not rule out the possibility that the derby will be held in the DIY region. Likewise regarding spectators, everything will be discussed in the near future.
This DIY derby will be presented for the first time in history in Liga 1 or the Super League. Moreover, both PSIM and PSS have fanatical and fairly large supporter bases, and friction is feared when the derby match is held.
It is known that PSIM will be based at Sultan Agung Stadium in Bantul for the 2026/2027 Super League season. Meanwhile, PSS will use Maguwoharjo Stadium in Sleman as their home base.
Inspector General Anggoro explained that his party does not rule out the possibility of the derby being held at these two stadiums. However, intensive coordination among various parties must be held beforehand.
“Everything can be done in Jogja, but later there will be predictions, discussions, and meetings with the club owners and supporter presidents,” Anggoro explained when met at the Kepatihan Complex, Yogyakarta City, on Wednesday (5/8/2026).
“It will be held next week. If I am not mistaken, it will bring together PSIM, PSS Sleman, the managers, owners, and the local governments of Jogja and Sleman. We will be behind them,” he continued.
Likewise regarding the presence of supporters at the derby match, Anggoro said that this can only be decided after the coordination meeting. However, he stressed that his party does not rule out the possibility of supporters attending.
“We will see there (at the coordination meeting) what the decision will be. If the situation is deemed not possible, we will certainly prohibit it for the sake of Jogja. Jogja must be safe. Anything is possible (regarding supporter attendance),” he concluded.
