Deputy Trade Minister views franchise business model as effective for boosting entrepreneurship
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Trade Minister (Wamendag) Dyah Roro Esti believes that franchises represent a highly effective business model for accelerating Indonesia’s entrepreneurship ratio, which currently hovers around 3.29% of the total workforce. “Franchises constitute an effective business model for hastening the emergence of new entrepreneurship, as they are standardised and easily predictable,” said Wamendag Roro on the sidelines of the FLEI Business Show 2026 in Jakarta on Thursday. Roro stated that Indonesia must elevate its entrepreneurship ratio to at least 10-12% of the total workforce to become a developed country. Expanding business opportunities, she continued, is an inseparable agenda for achieving that target. “It is hoped that events like the one we see today can provide new information for Indonesian society, which is in a mindset where they want to start something new,” she remarked. The Deputy Trade Minister also reminded the public interested in entrepreneurship through franchises to pay attention to supporting regulations to ensure the business ecosystem remains healthy and trustworthy. “We urge business actors to ensure they have a franchise registration certificate before using the term or franchise logo on brochures, websites, social media, and so forth,” she said.
