Deputy Trade Minister Encourages Market Diversification and Global Collaboration
Deputy Trade Minister Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri is encouraging export market diversification, strategic partnerships, and global collaboration to strengthen trade resilience amid increasing world economic challenges. According to her, these steps are important to maintain sustainable economic growth while strengthening Indonesia’s position in international trade. This was conveyed by Deputy Trade Minister Roro during her keynote address at the 10th Jakarta Geopolitical Forum 2026 in Jakarta on Thursday (9/7).
“Indonesia is responding to global dynamics by strengthening trade resilience through the diversification of export markets and investment partners. At the same time, Indonesia continues to expand strategic collaboration with various partners and enhance national competitiveness to face global challenges without reducing its commitment to open and mutually beneficial trade,” said Deputy Trade Minister Roro.
Deputy Trade Minister Roro added that the global economy is currently undergoing a transformation marked by increasing strategic competition, the use of tariffs and various trade instruments as policy tools, and changes in the configuration of global supply chains. These conditions require every country to maintain a balance between economic openness and national resilience.
Indonesia, she continued, is consistently implementing a diversification strategy to reduce dependence on single markets, technologies, or supply chains. At the same time, Indonesia remains committed to being an open, reliable, and trusted trade and investment partner.
In addition to strengthening trade resilience, Indonesia is also pushing for the reinforcement of an open, inclusive, and rules-based global trading system. She assessed that reforms to various international economic institutions are necessary to better reflect current global economic dynamics and to be able to answer future challenges.
On the same occasion, Deputy Trade Minister Roro also affirmed that collaboration remains key in facing various global trade challenges. Therefore, Indonesia continues to promote open and inclusive economic diplomacy through active involvement in various international organisations and forums, such as ASEAN, the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Group of Twenty (G20), Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), BRICS, and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
Furthermore, Deputy Trade Minister Roro encouraged strengthening collaboration between the government, academia, business actors, society, and the media through a pentahelix approach to support more effective Indonesian economic diplomacy. According to her, this synergy is important to align national priorities, strengthen negotiating positions, and ensure Indonesia has a solid voice in facing various global dynamics.
“In an increasingly fragmented world, coordination and collaboration are strategic assets. Through the pentahelix approach, the government plays a role in providing policy direction, academics present evidence-based analysis, business actors convey market perspectives and practical experience, society ensures inclusivity and accountability, and the media plays a role in building public understanding of various economic and trade policies,” she concluded.
