Deputy Syuriyah Leader: Gus Ipul Appointed as Head of NU Congress Organising Committee Following Meeting with Tanfidziyah

JAKARTA — The General Secretary of the Executive Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU), Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul), has been appointed as the Head of the Organising Committee (OC) in the core committee lineup for the 35th NU Congress.

PBNU Deputy Syuriyah Leader, KH Sarmidi Husna, explained that this appointment resulted from a joint meeting between the Syuriyah and Tanfidziyah elements of PBNU, which discussed preparations for the Munas and Muktamar.

“The four-person committee is the outcome of a joint Syuriyah-Tanfidziyah meeting for the Munas and Muktamar committees,” said Kiai Sarmidi when confirmed by Republika on Wednesday (15/4/2026).

He detailed that the core committee structure includes KH Akhmad Said Asrori as Head of the Steering Committee (SC), Prof KH M Nuh as SC Secretary, Saifullah Yusuf as OC Head, and Dr H Amin Said Husni as OC Secretary.

Nevertheless, Kiai Sarmidi emphasised that the committee structure is not yet official. To date, the full committee structure is still being prepared and awaits approval via a PBNU decree (SK) at the NU Munas and Konbes Forum to be held this year. “Yes, it’s still awaiting the SK, complete with the committee structure,” he said.

This affirmation aligns with the statement from PBNU General Chairman, Yahya Cholil Staquf (Gus Yahya), who previously stressed that the official Muktamar NU committee has not yet been formally established.
