Jakarta, VIVA – Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, has asked the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) to step in and resolve the polemic surrounding government employees on work agreements (PPPK) who face dismissal, including in Tidore, North Maluku.

According to him, the Ministry of Home Affairs must convey to every regional government that PPPK staff should not be dismissed because of limited regional budgets. For that reason, he said, the central government needs to facilitate the needs of the regions concerned.

“Tell them how long it will take until there is certainty for them, and if for instance the PPPK staff are part-time, or if full-time PPPK staff have performance allowances that must be borne by the region, the Ministry of Home Affairs must convey this,” said Cucun at the parliament complex in Jakarta on Thursday, 9 July 2026.

In addition, he said the government also needs to examine the General Allocation Fund (DAU) scheme that provides revenue to the regions for paying PPPK staff, particularly teachers.

He believes the government must promptly provide certainty for part-time PPPK teachers who are still waiting for clarity on their status.

“There are also part-time PPPK staff. These part-timers have voiced their aspirations. They are asking for clarity by September. This really must be addressed soon,” he said.

Previously, a problem emerged involving thousands of PPPK staff in the city of Tidore Islands, North Maluku, who risk being affected by efficiency measures due to limited regional budgets.

They staged demonstrations in their area in protest at plans to dismiss them, as they face losing their livelihoods if dismissed by the local government. (Ant)
