Deputy Speaker of DPR: Sanimas Programme Enhances Community Quality of Life
Sanitation is not merely about cleanliness, but concerns health, productivity, and the future of generations.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) and Coordinator for Economic and Financial Affairs, Sari Yuliati, stated that the Community-Based Sanitation (Sanimas) programme constitutes the state’s presence in enhancing the quality of life for the community.
“Sanitation is not merely about cleanliness, but concerns health, productivity, and the future of generations. Without adequate sanitation, the risk of disease increases and the economic burden on the community also rises,” said Sari in a statement in Jakarta on Monday.
She noted that there are still several regions facing limitations in sanitation facilities as well as low awareness of clean and healthy living behaviours. Therefore, the Sanimas programme is considered a strategic intervention to address these issues.
“Do not let facilities that have been built with state funding go unused or unmaintained. This is a shared responsibility, not just the government’s,” she said.
She also encouraged local governments along with community groups to ensure the sustainability of the programme through education and strengthening collective awareness.
Sari attended the handover of Sanimas programme aid in Batujai Village, Ungga, and Tanak Awuk, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, on Sunday (3/5).
She added that the effectiveness of the state budget is not only measured by the amount of funding disbursed, but by the real impact in improving the quality of life for the community, starting from fulfilling adequate sanitation.
