Deputy Speaker of DPR RI Addresses Acceleration of New Labour Law
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, stated that the acceleration of the formation of the new Labour Law does not solely depend on the DPR, but also on the completion of the formulation currently being drafted by labour unions and the Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo).
“It was mentioned earlier that the new labour law is waiting, depending on me and the DPR; in fact, it is quite the opposite,” said Dasco during the opening of the 3rd Congress of the Confederation of the Indonesian Labour Union (KPBI) in Jakarta on Sunday.
He explained that the acceleration of the new Labour Law was discussed during a ‘halal bi halal’ gathering with labour union associations and Apindo, which was attended by several prominent labour figures, including Jumhur Hidayat and Andi Gani.
During the event, he noted that the associations and Apindo will establish a drafting team for the new Labour Law as a follow-up to the Constitutional Court (MK) ruling.
“In the meeting with the labour union leaders—including Bung Ilham, Bung Jumhur, and Bung Andi Gani—alongside Apindo, it was agreed that the Labour Unions and Apindo will form a drafting team for the new Labour Law in response to the Constitutional Court’s decision,” he said.
Subsequently, teams from the Labour Unions, Apindo, and the DPR will form a joint committee to refine and deliberate on the draft.
“Therefore, if the law is to be completed quickly, as targeted by the President for no later than October, we must all work together,” said Dasco.
He added that, as of now, the specific substance to be included in the new Labour Law, as formulated by the Apindo and labour union teams, remains unknown.
Previously, the revision of the Labour Law was included in the 2025 Priority National Legislative Program (Prolegnas), driven by the Constitutional Court ruling and widespread criticism regarding the labour cluster within Law Number 11 of 2020 on Job Creation.
