Deputy Speaker of DPR Proposes Government Gradually Appoint All Teachers as Civil Servants: It's Already an Emergency

The problems faced by teachers have been ongoing for a long time, and we want accurate data that can truly accommodate these educators, especially honorary teachers or those with P3K status, part-time workers, and various others. The DPR has conveyed this to the government several times, ensuring that their rights are affirmed,” said Cucun to reporters after a plenary session at the DPR in Jakarta on Tuesday (12/5/2026).

He stated that many teachers come to the DPR to complain. Their complaints range from certification to incentives.

“We do not want that to continue. Whether teachers in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology or those in the Ministry of Religious Affairs, if we propose it, given the current emergency shortage of teachers, they should all be appointed as civil servants (ASN), as PNS,” he said.

He also highlighted teachers’ salaries. He called for teachers to be gradually appointed as PNS.

“Because with the current P3K controversy, regions no longer have the funds—where will their salaries come from? The DPR wants that if the government is strong, it should gradually appoint them as ASN so that their status has clarity,” he explained.

“Educators in our country should truly, with the condition that they are willing to be placed anywhere in the regions or areas, become ASN, become servants of the state. And this is the hope of all teachers,” he continued.

Regarding selection, he hopes it will not be made difficult. He assured that the DPR will also consider the best selection scheme.

“Of course, the selection process will look at their certification data, which is updated every year. They report how many years they have been teachers. We will discuss here how the scheme should be so that these teachers have certainty in their status in our country,” he stated.
