Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, has urged authorities to take firm action against Taufik Hidayat, a 30-year-old man accused of imprisoning and torturing his girlfriend, YTR, 29, in his rented room in Cinunuk Village, Cileunyi District, Bandung Regency, West Java. Cucun stated that the perpetrator’s actions constitute a violation of human rights.

“There must be firm action against the perpetrator of the confinement and abuse that caused the victim serious injury and trauma. What the perpetrator did is a form of deprivation of individual liberty,” Cucun told reporters on Tuesday (23/6/2026).

Cucun demanded the immediate arrest of the suspect, who has been placed on the wanted list. He described the acts as heinous. “Immediately arrest the perpetrator who is currently a fugitive. The police must also thoroughly investigate this case and impose a heavy sentence on the perpetrator because his actions are extremely cruel,” Cucun said. “This incident is also a form of gross human rights violation, and the legal threat is not trivial,” he added.

According to Cucun, the perpetrator can not only be charged with kidnapping and assault but also under Law Number 12 of 2022 concerning the Criminal Act of Sexual Violence. Cucun called for comprehensive health assistance for the victim until she fully recovers. “It is also necessary to investigate whether there was potential torture and sexual exploitation carried out by the perpetrator against the victim. In addition to medical care, psychological rehabilitation is also important because the confinement and violence experienced by the victim can cause trauma. Health and psychological assistance must be completed until the victim recovers,” he said.

Cucun also urged the public and relevant stakeholders to treat the Bandung case as a matter of social concern. He emphasised the need for sensitivity in looking out for one another within the community. “Caring is not just the responsibility of family and close relations. As social beings living in a pluralistic society, environmental awareness is also very important so that we can protect each other,” he said.

Previously, the West Java Regional Police placed Taufik Hidayat on the wanted list for the abuse and confinement of his girlfriend, YTR, in his rented room in Cinunuk Village, Cileunyi District, Bandung Regency. The West Java Police are currently still pursuing the suspect.
