Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad climbed onto a student command vehicle after escorting student representatives who were demonstrating at the Parliamentary Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday (19/6/2026). The moment occurred following a dialogue between DPR leaders and student representatives in the Abdul Muis Room of the DPR building.

Based on CNBC Indonesia’s observation, Dasco exited with the students through a small gate leading to Jalan Gatot Subroto, Central Jakarta, around 19.35 WIB. They then walked together towards the protest site where thousands of students remained to voice their aspirations.

Upon arrival, Dasco and fellow Deputy Speaker Saan Mustopa mingled with the crowd, greeted by cheers and applause from the demonstrating students.

Dasco stated that the dialogue with the students took place in a positive and open atmosphere. He confirmed that the DPR would continue communication with the students to discuss the various aspirations raised. “We have communicated and interacted very well, and because time was limited, we will communicate more with our younger siblings, the students, going forward,” Dasco said. He also mentioned that the DPR had directly communicated with relevant parties regarding the demands raised during the protest. The meeting between DPR leaders and student representatives occurred amid a rising wave of demonstrations highlighting various national issues, including economic conditions, governance, subsidised fuel shortages, and legislative policies requiring government and parliamentary attention.
