Deputy Social Minister Supports People's School Development in Maybrat
The Deputy Social Minister, Agus Jabo Priyono, received an audience with Members of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) of West Papua Daya Province Agustinus R. Kambuaya and Maybrat Regent Karel Murafer to discuss the development of People’s Schools in Maybrat, West Papua Daya Province.
The meeting took place at the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) office. Agus Jabo stated that the People’s School, which is a presidential priority programme, is expected to be established in every district and city.
“This is an opportunity for our children in Maybrat so that they are cared for by the state, from primary to secondary school education at no cost,” said Agus Jabo in a written statement on Wednesday (11 March 2026).
Agus Jabo recommended that the local government promptly submit proposals and fulfil land requirements for the construction of People’s Schools. He also added that students at People’s Schools, in addition to being academically competent, must also possess character traits as mandated by the President.
“Children must have social character, religious values, nationalism, and must also have skills. So when they graduate and seek employment, they will already be equipped with vocational knowledge suited to the potential in their region,” said Agus Jabo.
Besides the development of People’s Schools, Agus Jabo also hopes that the community in Maybrat can continue to develop and become increasingly economically independent so that in the future they will not depend on government assistance.
Maybrat Regent Karel Murafer expressed readiness for the development of People’s Schools in his area. He hopes that this year the construction of the People’s School can progress.
“We want our region to progress like other areas,” concluded Karel.
